The Law Society Tribunal, an independent adjudicative body within the Law Society of Ontario, is calling for applications for lay adjudicators. Lay adjudicators cannot be lawyers or paralegals. The Tribunal is especially interested in lay candidates who can conduct hearings in French, have experience with Indigenous matters, experience with mental health matters or familiarity with vulnerable groups in the legal system. Lay adjudicators are appointed by Convocation (the governing body of the Law Society), and must be approved by the Attorney General of Ontario.
The Law Society recognizes the importance of diversity in the appointments process and will take into account membership in equality-seeking communities and knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion issues.
The deadline for applications is April 1, 2021.
